Composite Bonding

What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding is a minimally invasive, highly versatile way to refresh the appearance of your teeth. A tooth‑coloured resin is artistically layered onto the surface, then shaped and polished to refine chips, edges, gaps or small imperfections.

The material is carefully matched to your natural tooth shade and translucency, helping your new smile look seamless, smooth and confidently natural.

Composite bonding treatment procedure

1

Step 1 - Consultation

We begin with a consultation to assess your dental health, discuss your goals and confirm that composite bonding is the right option for your smile.
2

Step 2 - Preparation

At your treatment visit, we talk you through each step and decide whether any local anaesthetic is needed to keep you completely comfortable.
3

Step 3 - Bonding

A conditioning liquid is applied to the tooth surface so the bonding material adheres securely. The tooth‑coloured resin is then carefully layered, shaped and blended to match the natural contours and shade of your teeth.
4

Step 4 - Finishing touches

A special light is used to harden the resin, after which your dentist refines, trims and polishes the bonded area so it feels smooth and looks seamlessly integrated with your smile.

A practical guide and frequently asked questions

How long does composite bonding last?

Composite bonding can usually last around 5 to 7 years when well looked after. Good oral hygiene, regular dental check‑ups, and habits such as avoiding biting hard objects or staining foods and drinks will all help it last longer.

Will composite bonding stain?

Yes, composite bonding can pick up stains over time, much like your natural teeth. Keeping up with regular hygiene appointments, maintaining a good daily oral care routine, and limiting highly staining foods and drinks can all help keep your bonding looking brighter for longer.

Does composite bonding hurt?

Composite bonding is generally a very comfortable procedure, and most patients do not experience pain. If you feel nervous or your teeth are particularly sensitive, we can use a local anaesthetic to make sure you stay relaxed throughout your appointment.

What is the recovery time after composite bonding?

Most people can return to their normal routine straight after composite bonding, as there is usually little to no recovery time. You may notice some mild sensitivity to hot or cold foods and drinks for a short while, but this typically settles quickly.

How do I take care of composite bonding?

Looking after composite bonding is very similar to caring for your natural teeth. Brush twice a day, clean between your teeth daily, and keep up with regular dental check‑ups and hygiene appointments. To help your bonding last longer, avoid chewing hard objects and try to limit highly staining foods and drinks.
