Implants Explained

Artificial teeth that look and feel like your own

Dental implants are strong, artificial roots used to replace missing or badly damaged teeth.

They are small, screw‑like fixtures that are surgically placed into the jawbone to act as a new tooth root, then topped with a custom crown to restore the visible tooth. Implants are widely considered one of the best alternatives to natural teeth because they are highly durable, long‑lasting and help you chew, speak and smile with confidence.

A dental implant has three key parts that work together to act like a natural tooth

Dental implants for one tooth or a full smile

Dental implants can be used to replace anything from a single missing tooth to a full arch, and our team will shape a personalised plan around your needs. Your dentist will talk you through the most suitable implant options and show examples of the kinds of cases we treat, so you can see what’s possible for your own smile.

Single dental implant

Ideal when just one tooth is missing or cannot be saved. A single titanium implant is placed in the jawbone and restored with one custom‑made crown, giving you a strong, natural‑looking replacement for that tooth.

Implant supported bridge

Best for several missing teeth in a row. Two or more implants are placed in the jawbone and used to support a custom bridge of linked crowns, restoring the whole gap securely without needing an implant for every single tooth. Find out more

Full mouth restoration

For patients missing most or all of their teeth, we offer full mouth restoration using our All‑on‑6 implant treatment. Six implants are placed in the jaw and used to support a fixed 12‑tooth bridge, giving you a stable, natural‑looking full arch of teeth in one integrated solution. Find out more

Teeth in Day

Teeth in a day is another full mouth option where four implants are placed in the jaw and used to anchor a complete arch of teeth. The implants support a full set of removable implant‑retained dentures, giving far better stability than traditional dentures while still allowing you to take them out for easy cleaning. The Dental Implant Journey:
Three Simple Steps

1

Step 1 – Placing the implant

After your consultation and treatment plan, the implant is gently placed into your jawbone in a single visit under local anaesthetic. It then heals under the gum for 3–6 months while it bonds with the bone; during this time you can usually wear a temporary denture and will follow a softer diet at first.
2

Step 2 – Healing cap and gum shaping

Once the implant has fused with the bone, your dentist uncovers it and fits a small healing cap to shape the gum ready for your new tooth. Any needed tweaks are made to your temporary denture so you can keep using it comfortably until the final crown is fitted.
3

Step 3 – Fitting your new teeth

A custom crown, bridge, or denture is then made to match your natural teeth and attached to the implant. After a few checks and minor adjustments, you leave with a secure, natural‑looking new smile.

A practical guide and frequently asked questions

How long does a dental implant take?

Most people complete their dental implant treatment in around 5–8 months, from the first surgery to fitting the final tooth. This can take longer if extra bone treatment is needed beforehand.

Why bone procedures are sometimes needed

Over time, the bone where a tooth has been lost can shrink away, which means there may not be enough support for an implant. In these cases, we may recommend one of the following treatments to build the bone back up.

What is a bone graft?

A bone graft adds extra bone into an area where it is thin or missing. This can be your own bone, specially prepared bone from a donor source, or a mix of both, depending on what is needed.

What is a sinus lift?

For missing back teeth in the upper jaw, there may not be enough bone between your mouth and the sinus above it. A sinus lift gently raises the sinus floor and places extra bone underneath, creating enough space to secure the implant safely.our visit accordingly.
